This is for Jack Stecker.maybe you shouldn’t be crushing all those pills buddy, I think it’s negatively impacting your brain. This water heater is not intended to replace a tank water heater, it is not for your whole house.
If it is tripping your breaker, it is because you did not wire it correctly, or are using the wrong size breaker.The wire sizes that Bosch says to use are NOT intended as a guideline, they are the size that the unit needs. You are probably very lucky you didn’t burn down your house.Next time follow the instructions, ALL of the instructions, and take the pills AFTER you are done with the wiring.I have two Bosch tankless water heaters, and they are awesome, but they need to be installed correctly. And yes, they do draw more electricity when they are on than a conventional tank water heater, it’s just that they are only on when you need hot water.that draw is why you need to follow the directives about wire size. If it says 8ga wire, you CANNOT use 10ga.
Also, the size requirement for your house service needs to adhered to as well, if is says minimum 200 amp service, you cannot use it with a 150 amp service, you could burn your house down.
My advice, buy the 220v unit and have an electrician install it for you.

This product is perfect for homes where the space is an issue or forlocations distant from heating source.
The first heater we received and installed was mulfunctioning. After discussing the troubleshooting with BOSH, Amazon the same day we contacted them sent us newreplacement. Returning the first heater could be easier. Thank you Amazon.com!
My electric panel was just some year new, we did not have to provide any additional works besides wiring the heater. I saved all closet space(where I had located 30gal. el water heater) for other use. Heater is very small, it would easily fit under the sink. Temperature of hot water can be adjusted to your needs. 2 gallons of hot water per minute are good enough. According to professional installer, the heater is so simple device, that it should not have any additional problems.
I am very happy with the product and am starting considering this type of hot water heater for whole house, no matter price for electrical works.
Where the space is an issue, this product is one of great solutions.
I am highly recomanding this heater.

On InSinkErator’s (ISE) recommendation, we bought this tank and filter to replace our 5 year old unit that still heated, but whose output was undrinkable – a funny taste due to corrosion of the tank (?). While the replacement tank and filter work fine, it was quite a job to install for this amateur plumber, due to ISE not providing good information or the right fittings. Our old unit used 1/4″ copper from the faucet to the supply and to the tank. The new unit uses 3/8″ polyethylene tubing. ISE should have known this, since we provided the serial number of the old unit when we called and had this unit recommended, hence only 3 stars. Gory details follow for anyone in the same situation.

The new tank is wider than the old one. So, I had to move the mounting bracket so the new tank did not interfere with the supply valve. When I called to explain the tubing mismatch, ISE sent an adapter for the line from the faucet to the tank (1/4″ compression to quick-disconnect). However, the 3/8″ to 1/4″ Y adapter from the filter leaked when I tried it with 1/4″ copper tubing. I ended up getting 2 1/4″ to 3/8″ compression adapters from Home Depot, which did fine with the copper 1/4″ tubing and the plastic 3/8″ tubing. Two are needed since the filter goes in between the supply and the faucet. Do-it-yourselfers will also need a compact tubing cutter and some extra 1/4″ compression nuts and ferrules.

I bought this water dispenser to replace an older unit (different brand) that began to leak after two years of use. I searched around for the best price and at $124.00 this is the lowest I found anywhere. Of course, I cannot say how long this unit will last, but by the way it was packed and the look and feel of all its parts, I’m confident it’ll last for a while…at least longer than two years.

Installation was a snapped; insert the faucet through the hole in the sink, install three quick disconnects…two going to the tank and one going to a cold water pipe, turn the water, fill up the tank by opening the faucet, plug the unit in and turn the thermostat to high. And just like that, in a few minutes, instant hot water.

Other thoughts: The cold water quick disconnect includes a very small metal filter. If your supply water is not of high quality or if you have hard water issues, most probably the filter will get clogged often. You can remove the quick disconnect to clean the filter, but it might be an inconvenience or you might end up having a bad water leak later on. I didn’t install the filter, opting to hook up the water dispenser to an osmosis drinking water system. Also, the house has a water softener, which prevents calcium formation on appliances and plumbing.

Bosch ES series is a huge step forward in technical development but such a bad taste has been left by former products and Bosch technical support that few plumbers will recommend one regardless of what improvements are made today or tomorrow. Thismodel still has the same potential for gas valve failure that goes back to their 250 SX series that if condensation or rain is not caught before it reaches the gas valve, the valve must be replaced and is nearly 3X the cost of their competitors. Performance is as stated but if your incoming water temperature is not 65 F then expect far less performance. Your homes gas piping and water piping must be taken into account before considering this and the cost of a single wall stainless steel vent system must be calculated into the total cost. Bosch also requires a propritory roof termination kit that if not installed, voids your warranty and this too adds to the total cost.
As a licensed plumber contractor in Ca and a former authorized service provider I had never in all the years of servicing Bosch, seen a correctly installed Bosch tankless. It really doesn’t take that much effort to read the instructions and follow them. Of all the various makes and models we have installed in nearly 30 years, I never once had a failure or problem due to my own installations. Bosch service calls sometimes totaled more than 35 per week on new installations alone by home owners, handymen and plumbers. If properly installed, they are perfectly good water heaters. Tthey do have the best and most robust heat exchangers of all brands, this particular models control board is the most advanced and user friendly of all but only to service providers.
The only downside is the limited access to Bosch technical support tooand if not installed to the letter, Bosch may and have voided warranties in the past.
Due diligence goes a long ways and emotional reviews only blur accurate information for those seeking answers. Bosch is making the effort to improve product and service and I will give them that…

I tested the AE-9.5.If it worked as advertised, it would be a great little piece of equipment – but it doesn’t. It is advertised to achieve an 84 degree rise at .75 gallons per minute.The best that I could do after ten tests was a 70 degree rise.Here are my test results.

Incoming water – 48 degrees
Gallons per minute – .75 GPM
Heated Water Temp – 118 degrees

I did hit 125 degrees or 77 degrees once but not for .75 gallons per minute.

For my test,I set the AE-9.5 on a table about 30 inches off the floor.I wired the unit to 240 volts.Actual voltage, 242.The heated water was directed into a two gallon pail using a two foot section of hose.The distance from the unit to the pail was minimized so as not to affect the results. I used a sealed thermometer to measure the water temp.Each test ran for two minutes.

I called the Bosch support line for help but it was after hours and they weren’t able to answer my questions.

My conventional water heater died and I decided to go tankless since this is a second home. The price was quite a bit higher than a replacement tank heater, but since I use very little hot water it seemed like a good fit.

The first thing that I ran into was the electric requirements. This thing has four 7000W heating elements and each one requires a separate 30A 240V circuit. Since I didn’t have that much room in my service panel, I had to install a 125A sub-panel. This also required pulling four 10-2 cables through the attic and into the utility room. Given the price of copper, this is not an insignificant expense. If I had it to do all over again, I might have moved the water heater closer to the service panel.

The actual pluming was pretty easy. It works just like a regular water heater with 3/4 inch inlet and outlet. The specifications say that a blowoff valve is not required, so I did not install one.

I am a little upset by the design of this thing. The pipes come in from the top and the wiring is on the side. The problem with this arrangement is that any sweating from the pipes runs down into the unit and onto the electrical wiring. I had a small leak in a connection when I first turned the water on and the water dripped down onto the circuit board in the unit.Fortunately, I didn’t have the power on yet, but it did take a bit of work to dry everything out. I would have much preferred that the water connection would have been on the bottom and the electricity on the top.

When I powered the unit up, there were a number of clicks and beeps and flashing LEDs. The unit quickly settled down into a constant blinking of a single green LED. The very limited manual indicated that this was the normal operating mode. After a few small tests at the kitchen sink, I was satisfied that the unit was working, so I decided to take a shower.

Everything worked fine and the water was plenty hot enough. As a matter of fact, I will probably turn the temperature down a bit from the factory setting. One issue that I have is that when any of the four elements turn on it causes my lights to flicker slightly. This is a common problem since this also happens with any large electrical load like the heat pump or hot tub. The issue is that the elements seem to be turning on and off constantly during the shower causing a lot of flickering. This is something that I guess I will have to live with.

I only have a 200A service into my house and this is the minimum recommended for this unit. It will be interesting to see how well the power holds up when I have the heat pump, hot tub, and a shower all going at the same time. I probably ought to turn on all the burners on the stove at the same time just to really give it a shakedown.

The only other issue that I have is the apparent lack of information on this unit. I don’t believe that the manufacturer has any useful web site or customer support. The manuals that come with the unit are very limited in information. With the unit powered on and idle, there are periodic relay clicks that I assume are normal, but nothing is mentioned in the manual. I am guessing that this is some sort of diagnostics, but I am not really sure.

Over all, I probably would not replace a conventional water heater with this unit again. Given the total cost and time involved, I cannot see that I will ever come close to recovering the investment. I am a technology junkie and like to try new things, so the experience is worth something I guess.

I purchased this unit for my 5 unit apartment bldg. I had 2 40 gal units plumbed in series/parallel.I replaced a “State” Brand that died after 18 years…yea 18 years, the other unit is at 15 years.

This BW 50 gal is doing the trick and is providing hot water for eight persons in five apartments; so far no one has said they have run out of hot water.Seven take showers (not at the same time thank goodness) and one takes a bath. It is performing so well that I took the second State 40 gal offline, and keep it as an emergency back up.

The question is…will this unit last 10+ years?Well see.
